Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - Circa 700 civili sono stati uccisi in 120 massacri dall’ottobre 2014 nel Territorio di Beni, nel Nord Kivu, nell’est della Repubblica Democratica del Congo, afferma un rapporto di Human Rights Watch. L’organizzazione umanitaria denuncia che il 13 agosto, un gruppo armato ha commesso uno dei peggiori massacri avvenuti nella zona, quando nel quartiere Rwangoma della città di Beni 40 persone sono state uccise e diverse abitazioni incendiate, malgrado la presenza di un forte contingente di soldati congolesi e di Caschi Blu della Missione ONU nella RDC.
L’ultimo massacro risale a domenica 9 ottobre, afferma un comunicato inviato all’Agenzia Fides dal CEPADHO, una Ong locale. Alcuni uomini appartenenti alle ADF (la formazione di origine ugandese responsabile della maggior parte degli assalti) o un gruppo affiliato, hanno assalito il quartiere Boykene nel comune di Rwenzori a nord-est della città di Beni.
Oltre a 7 civili morti, il bilancio dell’assalto è di 2 persone ferite, tre case e una scuola incendiate e distrutte. I civili morti sono tre donne e quattro uomini. Cinque delle vittime sono state uccise a colpi di fucile, altre due con il machete.
Gli assalitori si sono scontrati con un reparto militare ed hanno avuto due morti, mentre l’esercito ha annunciato la morte di un ufficiale. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 11/10/2016)

AFRICA/EGITTO - Al Azhar organizzerà una Conferenza internazionale sulla pace con la partecipazione delle Chiese d'Oriente

Il Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - L'Università islamica di al Azhar organizzerà nei primi mesi del 2017, in cooperazione con il Consiglio islamico degli Anziani, una Conferenza internazionale sulla pace, la convivenza e il dialogo intereligioso, a cui prenderanno parte attiva anche i rappresentanti delle Chiese cristiane d'Oriente. La notizia è stata rilanciata dalla stampa egiziana in margine a un incontro avvenuto a metà della scorsa settimana; tra Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, Monarca del Bahrein, e lo Sheikh Ahmed al Tayyeb, Grande Imam di Al Azhar.
Il Consiglio Islamico degli Anziani è un organismo internazionale indipendente creato nel luglio 2014 come strumento per promuovere la pace tra le comunità islamiche. La sua sede è situata ad Abu Dhabi (Emirati Arabi Uniti), e tra i suoi obiettivi figura anche il proposito di “porre fine al settarismo e alla violenza che affliggono da decenni il mondo musulmano”.
L'impegno diretto di al Azhar sul terreno del dialogo interreligioso a favore della pace e del contrasto a ogni forma di violenza è stato confermato anche dalla partecipazione dello stesso Imam al Tayyeb all'incontro svoltosi a Ginevra dal 30 settembre al primo ottobre, che ha visto riuniti insieme una delegazione del Consiglio mondiale delle Chiese (WCC) e rappresentanti del Consiglio islamico dei saggi. Durante la sua permanenza a Ginevra, il Grande Imam al Tayeeb ha anche tenuto una relazione sul ruolo dei leader religiosi nella costruzione della pace, ospitata nell'Istituto ecumenico di Bossey – appartenente allo stesso WCC - nel contesto del settantesimo anniversario della fondazione dell'Istituto.
L'incontro – si legge tra l'altro nel comunicato finale della Conferenza, pervenuto all'Agenzia Fides – ha affermato la necessità per i membri di tutte le comunità religiose “di avere eguali diritti e responsabilità come cittadini dei rispettivi Paesi”. Per il prossimo anno, la collaborazione tra WCC e Consiglio musulmano dei Saggi proverà anche ad esplorare insieme le vie opportune per affermare il “contributo vitale” che le donne possono offrire all'opera di promozione della pace motivata dalla propria fede religiosa.
